Most of the water leaves with the exhaust but you should see a little, a few drops or a mist, from the exhaust back pressure relief holes on the leg.

there are water channels within the cylinder block and head.

There is no tell-tale on this model

You should be able to touch the head or block and maintain contact for several seconds, except around the spark plugs and the (un-cooled) exhaust manifold cover. If it is too hot to do that it is getting too hot!

BTW correct fuel mix is 50:1 and the plugs should be J6C gapped at 0.030"

Check the gear case oil before you use it. Milkiness indicates water ingress.

I have the same engine.

You should see water exiting, in a spray, from the row of holes you described. They do get clogged sometimes.

While the engine is running, in a bucket or barrel, put your fingers on the top of the head. If you can hold them there for a count of three, it is not overheating. It's about 140*.

Mine had a clogged cooling port under the powerhead. It was an easy fix but yours proabably does not have that problem. Mine has a LOT of hours on it.

ok , i did see some mist leaving the holes , but are you saying most of the water exits with the exhuast where you cant see it? and the best way to know the water is flowing is by the temp. of the power head , i have a manual on order i should have it next week , also when i checked the gear oil in the lower end it was empty , i think one of the seals are bad

Yes

Well, yes .. after all it's the temperature of the thing that's important.

when i checked the gear oil in the lower end it was empty , i think one of the seals are bad
If is was mine I would replace the seal in the gearcase head , the O ring, the driveshaft seal, the filler plug seal and while the gearcase is off replace the pump impeller too.

I would have invested in a new head gasket, exhaust cover gasket, upper water tube grommet and impeller.
Replace gear oil, and be sure you have some spare share pins for the propeller.
Then it is probably good for another 20 yrs.
