1976 johnson 135 skipping bad.

I had my boat out the other day and noticed it was skipping and wanted to stall on the hole shot. I had already put a new power pack in prior and after it was still skipping. I then put in all new plugs, wires, and coils. Had it out today and the skipping was about 10X worse . As it was running I was feeling around the back and got nailed on what I assume was the spark plug.. ouch.. anyways maybe I didn't get the coils installed correctly? It all seems pretty straight forward. I'm lost. Any suggestions? Thank you In advance. Derek

Run it at night you may see a short happening,
Also spark test every cylinder, check they a jumping a 7/16 gap
Looking at the colour of the spark plug electrodes may tell you something

I like the idea of running it at night. I never thought of that. And yeah I should run a spark test. I still have the feeling that the spark is jumping to ground somewhere somehow. They are all new coil and plug wire kits. Maybe there is a bad one from the factory? Stranger things have happened. Thanks for the input.

Yeah it has a fresh oil change. No issues with the gear box I don't believe

Okay so I ran it at night (just now) and I found that I have arcing coming from the boot to ground. This is occurring on both cylinders on the port side of the engine. Keep in mind that these are all new coils/ wires/ plugs/ boots. The Sierra coil kits. As an electrician I'm a bit embarrassed to say I'm lost.

As an electrician and lost then im not going to be of much help. But you may want to check there is no water leak as if there is a leak in the water cover gaskets then some spray can get on the plugs and i dont need to tell you what happens then
Did you clean the grounds too?
