Just got a 76 johnson 135. Rough shape. It will try to start but seems like there is no spark. It has 4 separate coils so i doubted that they are all bad. Everything seems to be in good working order it just wont turn over. Please help.

Far too little info to work with, anderson. Please be more detailed and give us facts as well as opinions.

Re: 1976 johnson 135

Begin with "won't turn over" To most of us, that would mean the starter won't crank the engine. Since you say it has no spark, I assume the starter is cranking the engine, but it won't fire and run----correct?

Does it crank the engine at a fairly good speed, or is it sluggish? It won't have spark unless it is turning at least 200 RPM. 300RPM would be more normal.

You are correct. Sorry for lack of info, im new at this. It turns over but slow. The battery i was using is old so i will start with that see if it turns faster.

Re: 1976 johnson 135

Hi mate.
I also just brought a 1975 135hp Johnson and had the same problem as you it was turning over but not firing.
I hooked it up to a fully charged battery and also jumped it off a car to get it to fire as they need to turn at 200rpm as F.T has explained.
Also I took each coil off and cleaned all the connections as well as battery connections to battery and solinoid etc.
It took a bit but if it has been sitting for a while then it will need it.
I managed to get my motor started and run.
