Hey guys, I have come to really rely on this place for answers so hopefully someone knows what I am doing wrong. I have a 1976 55hp Johnson Sea Horse that was running great untill recently now I cannot get it to Idle at all. I just replaced the plugs and stator recently and carbs were cleaned last year with very maybe 10 hours of run time since. After the repairs the motor was running great as far as I could tell. Recently while running at full throttle it began to bog down and then died on me. I couldnt even get it to fire again at the time. I took it home and hit it with some carb cleaner and played with the richness mixture screws a little with varying results. When I pulled my 6mo old plugs I found they were pretty badly fouled and had black oil on them. I cleaned the plugs and cylinders the best I could with carb cleaner. I have gotten it running many times since then by manually throttling it but cannot get it to idle right for the life of me. I have heard 1 1/4 turns or so, wait 30sec in bet adjustments and have played with the richness mixture screws for at least 5 hours now. I had it idling ok to where I could put it in and out of gear in the driveway with the hose but when I put it in the water I cant keep it running. I am afraid my warmup lever may have something to do with it. I took the controls completely apart to clean and lube them and had a lot of trouble getting the warmup lever back in the right position but it was working fine for a while after I had a mechanic look at it. It seems loose. Is it normal for it to barely change the idle speed of the motor? It cannot be used to "rev" it up very high at all.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance!
