Ive got a 1976 Johnson Seahorse model number 55EL76E, serial number E4473745.

I finally got a chance to put it in the water and see how it runs.
Now I am interested in getting the most power out of it.
Its on a 1969 Chrysler and I would like to ski or tube behind it.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to tune or what size prop I could use to
really get has much power as I can? I friend mentioned I could get a bolt on cavitation plate but I'm not sure what that would do.

Thanks

Once the motor is tuned to it's optimum performance i.e. carbs clean and properly adjusted and the linkage synchronized, you have what you have. Prop selection based upon what you intend to do with the boat is the most important thing in terms of performance.
Prop selection isn't something you want to guess at, you will need a tachometer in order to dial it in properly.
Once the motor is running it's best head on over to the prop forum there are some real experts over there.

I rebuilt the two carbs. I set the needles to the amount of turns they were before and they are both different. Because I rebuilt the carbs, should they both be set the same? For example should they both be 1 and half turns out? Also if the needle is turned out, does the let more gas into the carb or less?
