I am still working on my unknown model 1969 Starcraft, which is paired with a 1976 Merc 65HP that is the subject of this post.

Last time out, I noticed a fuel leak. Traced it back to this part:

MOD EDIT - Remove competitor

It's a filter cover. It's made from black plastic.

I discovered there is a pinhole leak - when under pressure, like when I squeeze the bulb on the fuel line, it actually squirts out in a tiny little stream (see pics, I think I found the actual pinhole.)

This is a plastic part that as far as I can tell isn't available to buy ANYWHERE. That leaves me with repairing it, or just accepting a fuel leak (not acceptable OR safe).

I have tried JB Weld putty, gasket maker, all kinds of stuff and it still leaks through.

I included an interior pic - you can see the 'pie piece' design, and likely that's the weak part.

What I need is some on advice on either somewhere that I might actually be able to source this part OR on repairing / modifying this part.

After trying all different kinds of 'patches' I am leaning towards trying to melt that interior plastic just a tiny bit - just enough to hopefully fill that hole.

Any advice or thoughts are welcome!!! I included several pics, thanks!!!

Make the part.------Stainless come to my mind.

It's not a terrible idea... although I have exactly zero fabrication tools / capability at my home.

I think it would be pretty expensive to have it made from stainless, so I am going to look into3D Scanning / Printing, using materials that don't break down from gasoline (hopefully!)

If anyone has any plastic repair advice or might know a spot where I could get this part, please feel free to share! Thanks!

Epoxy glue would be your best bet. Sand it lightly and clean it with acetone, then apply the epoxy.

There appear to be some aluminum ones shown on the internet.----So I believe a new one is available somehow.

Can you share a link? I can't find anything that shows 'in stock' that's similar. Everything I can find is no longer available, out of stock, etc.

Here's the part number that was removed by MODs:

35-91078A 1 - COVER ASSEMBLY NLA

This part number does NOT link to any other sites, so please don't remove it. I need for people to be able to see the part and part number in order to help. This site doesn't even list the part or part number - the information on this site is incomplete.

Thanks!

This what you should have done the first time. We remove anything related to competitors - We sell marine parts. That is why.

To find Mercury parts, only one thing works. Serial numbers, not the year, or horsepower

BTW - Want an aftermarket aluminum cover, no we don't sell the OEM cover because it is No Longer Available (NLA) - https://www.nlamarine.com/products/...riner-6cyl-115hp-140hp?variant=29593038356577

I just wish this site showed the part and/or part number. If so, I would have linked to the part listed on this site.

This is the second poor experience I've had with mods here - you may remember the last time...?

People come here because they need help / advice from other folks... I can't for the life of me figure out why the folks that run this place would be so unwelcoming to new members of the community.
