Been working on it. Decided to strip the bottom and apply gluvit to some areas inside and out. I have read alot of good things abput it so i figured id give it a shot. And also. I heard 76 is the worst year for the 35 hp johnson. Is there anything a guy can do to some what improve on this old motor and maybe prevent something later on?

Ozark,
Looks like a fine tinny project. Like that little helper you have there too. Alot of guys will chime in. Keep posting pics. I'm a glass guy so I'm not alot of help. There is also a Johnson forum that may be more helpful. You can run a thread in there. Welcome aboard!
PSST... Depends who you talk to I think Johnson had alot of bad other years and a lot of great years.

If you haven't applied the Gluvit yet on the outside I would recommend against it. I have it on my hull and while I'm sure it did seep down in around the rivets and seams and do what it was supposed to do I have seen a lot of chipping and flaking on the flat areas around them. No big deal inside my hull but it sure would ruin your paint job if it started chipping/flaking under the paint on the outside.

Took it out this past friday. Done great. Did have a small leak. Maybe half a coke can of water. I believe is coming from my live well. Not sure yet. But i did decide my engine is sitting too low in the water. Draging me down a bit.

Soo can not find this leak im still having.. All bottom rivets have gluit and 6 inches up both sides has gluvit. Put it in water. And still lealing. The livewell is tig welded in place. Soo i wouldnt think it would be leaking. But i guess it could. If i find this leak. Could this aluminum be welded well enough with a spool gun on a mig or should i just find someone with a tig. I can use a spool gun fairly well.

get her dry and then put some water on the inside and check the bottom. You should be able to tell where water is coming from

Soo been a while sonce i posted. Im in the process of getting the boat stripped on the outside and painting it. Any paints that would be prefered for aluminum. I really want this to last. Also i work out of state building powerline. We are staying at a resort on the white river in arkansas. Been working on their outboards in the evening. They had alot that were down or needed serviced. So out of this i scoredje johnson 35 with a jet!!! Unsure of the year. Mid 80s i assume.

So im working on getting the transom pulled apart. They had at somepoint tried to strengthen it with an extra piece of would. Aluminum isnt pitted anywhere. No cracks really. But has alot of holes that werent originally there. Was thinkong about having a new piece welded in by a shop jere in town. Would it be worth it?

Suppose you could, but the transom skin doesnt seem bad enough to warrant a whole new skin. Unless its worse 1st hand then it is via the internet pix....

Where the transom is cut down. I fould two very small cracks. And there is six extra whole there from the previous owner. I guess its not that bad really. I just figure if its not too expensive i may try to go ahead and do it. Also. This hull isnt made for a jet prop. Would someone suppose i would have cavitation issues with it being built the way it is. Just a regular old flat bottom.

It is a riveted boat. All rivets are good. Tight. Replaced what wasnt. And laid gluvit inside the entire hull besides the last 2 feet front and back

Why skip the 2ft @ each end?

If its rivetted, I'd suggest a rivetted motor pad to cover the cracks (drill stopped 1st) and the unwanted holes. Fill the holes w JB or MarineTex 1st and sand smooth....

The front wasnt easilt accessed and was in very good shape. The last 2 feet at back is riverless on the bottom.
