Hi all - Replaced impeller with quicksilver kit yesterday, i made sure the drive was in fwd gear. Anyway - it tested fine with motor not running. My method was such:

Remove control cable from the bracket on engine. Wife rotates prop counter clockwise as i push lower cable by hand towards FWD position. Mark with sharpie, repeat for reverse (wife switches direction).

In the middle of these 2 marks is my "REAL" safe neutral - farthest away from gears grinding. Works perfect - however with motor running shes nigh impossible to get out of gear.

I think my gear kill switch needs to be adjusted so the gears can disengage? any tips? The roller seemed perfectly at rest in the slot in the switch -

My dog is perfectly engaged for Fwd/Rev (took it apart and struggled with that last month)

Replaced impeller yesterday and after 4 attempts finally got it in right in fwd gear in outdrive AND cable :)

Sorry, that is NOT the right way to adjust the cable. It is spelled out quite clearly in the service manual, or if you want to 'see' it done, click on the 'My Videos' link in my signature. That takes you to a list of videos I have produced to help folk in your position...

When you have finished the adjustment, to test the cutout switch, with the enigne running, press on the switch lever. The engine should stall when the lever is at about half travel. Restart the engine and this time pull the lever up. Same deal, should stall at about half the lever travel....
If the switch is out of adjustment, bend the arm to get it right (carfeul not to damage the switch)....

BTW. Removing the drive does not require the cable to be disconnected. If you leave it connected, nothing should need adjusting when you put the drive back on... ;)

hi chris - many thanks, yes i actually followed ur vid the first time on the boat but it was a bit of a hack.

I pulled the outdrive yesterday thinking perhaps we had missed a spline on the shift shaft or the shoe had slipped, but all was good.

I didnt realize the geometry pin, moved mine a bit yesterday following someone elses instructions (and the book) and it seems better. Putting boat into water today for a test.

My interrupt switch also wasnt hooked up cos I changed the started and bypassed the slave solenoid - is this thing necessary?

Anyway - my interrupt switch does work, BUT it doesnt engage at all when shifting on the hose, i think it requires back pressure from water on the prop to move?

Will report back later - thanks!

Ayuh,.... The shift switch has nothin' what so ever to do with the starter, nor the slave solenoid,... Nothin',...

Both the shift switch, 'n the slave solenoid are in fact Necessary,.....
Without the shift switch hooked up properly, the drive won't come outa gear, in the water,....
On the wagon, the shift switch should never ever move, at All,.... Only in the water,....
If it moves on the wagon, ya probably need a new lower shift cable kit,....

The slave solenoid is Necessary so that the keyswitch, 'n it's wirin' can handle the lighter amperage load,...
The power loss from the battery to the keyswitch to the starter solenoid causes the starter not to want to work,...

thanks yes, but the wire attached to the interrupt switch looks like it connected to the slave solenoid somehow, nothing else it could have attached to. Anyway had it on the water and shifting is great, goes in and out very easily. Rev is still a bit hard to get out of - but the boat shifts great now.

Steering is a whole other issue, twice she bit hard and veered, once left and once right! I hadnt adjusted the trim tab (1st day out) and was taking it moderately slow, but i need to move it right. Gonna retoqrue the shoulder bolts - but im guessing the square shaft is worn.. im considering a damper kit mounter externally to keep the outdrive loaded at all times - just a single hydraulic, like the mariner outboard trim assist units - or a bilstein waterproof one. I know this is unchartered territory for some - but no means to pull the motor right now..

Ayuh,.... The shift switch should have 2 wires,....
1 comin' from the coil's (-), 'n the other goin' to Ground,.....

Did you trim up the outdrive some, when on plane,..??
If not, I'm guessin' you were plowin' badly, 'n the bow caused yer hard turns,....

No way you should need a steerin' stabilizer,... If ya do, Something is just plain Wrong, 'n needs fixin',....
