I am a newbie to boat repair. Does anyone have any information on how the 1976 Wellcraft 196 boats were built. What types wood was used for stringers, how the hull was layed up, was core material used, etc.. I haven't been able get any response from Wellcraft. I have removed the floor, the tops of the stringer fiberglass and check the transom. Looks like the stringers are gone at least to the cuddy and transom will need to be rplaced. From what I have been reading and the information which has been past on this is a great place to post and transfer information.

Thanks for any info.
Phil

It may not serve you to recreate the original construction. Materials have gotten much better in the last 30 years. I would use pressure treated wood for the stringers and floor, matching the size/thickness of the originals. Dry the PT lumber well so the poly resin will penetrate and stick. Use plenty of cloth and resin to make a strong repair. Replace the foam floatation with new closed cell foam.

Would you know if Wellcraft used a balsa core or something else in the bottom of the 196 or is this woven roven attached straight to the hull fiberglass in the bottom?

Thanks
