hi, i recently rebuilt my motor and i have a rubber hose at the bottom of the air silencer...
what is it ?

also, would stopped up mid-range jets cause a motor to not "get-up-and-go" ?
i rebuilt the carbs and cleaned enough varnish out of the float chambers to fill a glass, they are clean, but i still have to choke the motor in order to get high rpms
i'm NOT a boat mechanic, and i'm having to rely on my self to do this cause there are few shops ANYwhere near me.
so i am hoping for help
thanks

Welcome!
The hose at the bottom of the air box should also connect to a barb in the front of the crankcase to scavenge drainage from the carbs.
Did you rebuild the fuel pump as well??? when you rebuilt the powerhead, that is...
I don't recall mid-range jets in my 77 115...???
The emulsion tubes may be restricted as well, causing a lean condition.
Did you install new fuel-line and bulb after O/H???

ok, i rebuilt the motor, new seals, bearings, and honed cyclnder walls, rebuilt the carbs, bought new fuel pump, new gas hose, new primer bulb.
when i rebuilt the carbs there are what seem to be 4 sets of jets. one on each side of the carb as well as two insidethe float chamber. the two in the float chamber my book calls mid-range, or something along those lines. one side is idle and the other is high speed.
the motor starts wonderfully on fluxh at the house, but get her in the water she doesn't like to start, when she does start the idle is too low and it dies once in gear. IF i get it in gear it will run up to a point then try to stall, if i play with the throttle i can get her up on a plane.i have been suspecting the timing more than the carbs but i read a post that noted a "spring" on the needle in the float chamber. I don't recall seeing those.
One final thought, wot timing is set where? once is gear, or the motor operating close to wot?
electircal is perfect, all with in spcs from the book for that motor..
thanks
