1977 1500 thermostat??

Does a Merc 1977 1500 have a thermostat? If so where is it located?

Your Merc 1500 doesn't have a thermostat so it's still on the drawing board in 1977.

Yes i installed a new impeller and water pump housing and gaskets. It ran fine after i started it, so i shut it down for the day. Today i was making some carb adjustments and idle adjustments when my girlfriend noticed it had stopped pissing. Shut her down and she was HOT! Im not sure what to do so I'm pulling the LU as we speak to start, any advice or info would be greatly needed. Also noticed upon start today lots of water coming coming from both upper exhaust holes

How were you supplying water - Muffs or barrel?

Was the old impeller still in one piece with no missing vanes?

i ran it using both today with success, at the time of failure it was on the muffs.

Also the old impeller was i one piece, i forgot to mention that my girlfriend busted my plastic barrel when she accidentally pushed it into gear. Maybe a piece of plastic got sucked up? after the over heat i blew it out with air but i was to scared to start it due to the temp.

Was it pissing the first time you started it? How long did you run it the first time?

The water intakes are pretty small, and anything that gets in there almost always passes right through the system without problem.

When you replaced the impeller, you did make sure the key/pin/insert was in place?

The key was installed I ran it for about 20 min on and off and it was pissing just fine. There was a rubber spacer in my water pump kit that I put on top of the housing, I think that was a mistake. From looking at diagrams it appears appears it should have gone directly over the impeller.

No, the foam/rubber flinger goes on top of the housing

Ok so I'm looking at the lower unit now. When I dropped it I noticed the exhaust gasket was not seated because the pump house is so low. The manual that I have cover a wide range of models and years so directions where vague.
