A quick question, I ran a compression test on my motor this afternoon and came up with some puzzling results. I got 95 psi on each cylinder. Is this too low? I'm behind on my maintenance for the year and was preparing to rebuild the carb, install a new water pump and change gearcase lube, etc. Should I consider a rebuild or a newer motor? Late last season the motor was on occasion cranky about starting. Thanks.

Your numbers are fine, JHar. Both cylinders the same is about as good as it gets.

The only thing you might consider is a decarb.

Good luck. :)

Thanks JB, I'll take you up on that. What is your recommendation for the decarb?

I'm one of those dinosaurs who still decarb with water, JHar. I wont recommend it because it is risky if you don't do it exactly right and I would be shouted down by the more modern thinkers.

Check out the excellent decarb advice in FAQ.

Good luck. :)
