I'm having problems with getting my Evinrude started. It was originally just hard to start, but it would eventually. Yesterday, the motor ran perfectly. We went out again today and the boat stalled, and wouldn't restart. The battery is fine, the ignition switch is working, the solenoid is picking up. I think it's the starter motor. I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this problem, and can maybe help me find a little less expensive way to fix it.

Thanks

Oak King,
I had the same problem with my 83' 70hp evinrude last weekend.Just wondering, when turning the key do you get any response from the engine? Mine was dead no clicking , nothing! I cleaned all my leads from the starter to the solenoid. Still no responce when turning the key. I then checked my inline fuse fron the starter to the solenoid. It was cracked it two pieces. replaced that $1.77 for 4 fuses, it started right up and running great!Try checking that, just a suggestion and possible oversight.
Good luck
Deuce

Had the starter rebuilt. Cost me $75 instead of $200. Boat works fine now. Thanks. Fuse was good, BTW.
