I have a 1975 evinrude 70hp. I am getting spark through all three sparkplugs, but when I pull plugwires off one at a time, the only cylinder that affects the way the engine is running is the top one. The engine idles fine, but when you try to open it up it will not build enough rpm's to get up on plane. A friend told me the stator tells each cylinder when to fire. Even though I am getting spark to all spark plugs that the stator is still most likely my problem. When you pull the middle or bottom wires off the engine it does not affect the idle at all. Could it be the stator? How can I test the stator?
