I have a 1977 70HP rude that needs a rebuild - no.1 piston has started to disintegrate, see thread
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=288063
Has anyone any advice on re-building? I was planning to strip the engine down and have the block crack tested and bored to the minimum with new psitons, rings, bearing kit and seals. I have been told by dealer that these are usually very reliable engines.

Any views/advice?

they are great motors, get the Evinrude service manual, for your particular motor. outboardbooks.com

I think you are wise to have the blocked check and cleaned up (bored in Nec). If it is in your budget, have the lower unit resealed and add a new water pump impellor. You will be ready to go.
