HI GUYS,<br /> I BOUGHT A 1977 85 HP MDL# 85793S AND RECIEVED A PARTS MOTOR ON THE DEAL. THE PARTS MOTOR IS A 1972 85HP MDL# 85293R. HERE'S MY PROBLEM, THE PARTS MOTOR HAS A TRIM AND TILT UNIT THAT I WANT TO PUT ON THE GOOD 85HP, WILL THAT TRIM AND TILT WORK ON MY GOOD ENGINE??? AND WHAT ABOUT THE L/U? LOOKS LIKE THE L/U ON THE 1972 ENGINE IS ELECTRIC SHIFT? CAN THE SHELL OF THE L/U OF A 1972 ELECTRIC SHIFT BE USED ON MY 1977?? SKEG IS BAD ON 1977!!! THANKS FOR ANY INPUT

Completely different motors unfortunately. As for the skeg any good welding shop can weld on a new one. They even sell replacements. Or use a bolt on Skeg Guard. I'd bet they sell them right here on iboats!

The 72 is quite different. Likely that the block is a 92 cubic inch model, the 77 is probably the 99.6 cubic inch model. The 72 is the last year of the electric shift lower units. Stay with the lower you have on the 77 and have a new skeg welded. The power trim you have from the 72 is designed to accomodate a lift bracket that bolts to the swivel bracket. The 77 will probably not have the holes drilled in the swivel bracket.
