hi guys, just wondering if theres any tricks to getting a bit more power out of my 85hp v4, ive just done a stern drive conversion i doiked my old antique volvo and modified my transom for the v4, my boat is a 17 foot fish ski runabout, im thinking a new hydrofoil on the leg and maybe a new stainless prop,
would the tilt trim pumps be avail after market? also the trims been bypassed, likeky culprit blocked valved in pump or would the ram be stuffed?

Your 85 is the small bore V4 crossflow. At 92 cubic inches, it is a little undersize, but still, a great performer. The fact that the engine is a small cube one-means you can't put high compression heads on it from a 140. Still, the factory heads should yield 125 lbs compression-pretty good. Two things you can do: Add a pair of 135 carbs 1 5/16" throats. You'll have to rejet, but will see a big difference. Also, add the NLA rubber intake filler blocks from a 79 115/140, part number 322684 (qty 4) You'll get an extra 3-5 hp. The addition of composite reeds make for nice idling and will improve the midrange pickup.
