Does anyone know if these carbs had rubber tipped needles or in the seat maybe? I rebuilt these but the kits I got were not for my motor. All was the same except the needle and seats. My carbs have press in seats and the kits came with screw in seats. I'm finding it difficult to find certain parts for this motor. 1359HG... I can't seem to get the carbs to stop leaking fuel so I'm thinking maybe the originals had rubber tips or seat inserts?

The needles in the kit I got have this feature but won't fit in my carbs. I tell you thought after rebuilding the carbs and fuel pump this motor runs soooooo good and tachs up nice it's a shame parts are not readily available like for more common motors. I think I am really going to enjoy having this engine on my boat after I get her fixed up. Anyway how do these press in seats come out? Do they just pry out gently with some tool? I never had a carb with press in seats until now and I been a mechanic all my life ( automobiles ) so this is a new one for me.

Thanks,
Nick

Re: 1977 Chrysler 135 carbs

The kit you received is for a Tillotsen WB carb which is smaller and has screw in inlet seats. The carbs on your 135 are Tillotsen TC carbs. They have rubber inserts in the seats and the needles are solid tipped. To pull the seats, you remove the needles and thread a small lag screw into them, then pull out. The new seats press back in. Obviously, you must receive new seats with the kit as pulling the old ones destroys them. And, if the rubber insert is separate, there may be a plain side and a grooved side. If there is, the grooved side goes up toward the needle for better sealing.

TC carbs were used for quite a while on Chrysler and Force engines. The base castings were all the same with variations in venting, jetting, and choke. You can get a rebuild kit for a late Force 120 or 125 at your Merc dealer and the seats will be the same.

Yep! And I found out the hard way that they can not be reamed or drilled to open up the hole.
