Hi all, I am new to the outboard side of boating. I just purchased a Glastron with a 1977 115 evinrude on the back. It has good compression on all four 120-125 but wont start or starts then dies. Has good spark but is leaking fuel from the carbs, air intake area. I was going to pull/clean/inspect and reinstall. is there anything that you would look at while diving in to this project? I was thinking the reeds may be bad??

Has new gas tank and pump and new champion gapless plugs, new battery and starter.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Compression is just fine. If the engine has been sitting for a long time and was not winterized properly, you may have some dried fuel in the carbs which can cause problems. Leaky carbs may indicate problems with the floats/needle and seats in the carb bowls. Carb overhauls are probably a good idea. New carb kits will have new floats. Make sure you clean all the passages will with an aerosol carb cleaner. It's what you don't see in those small passages that is the problem. Pull all the jets out and visually inspect them. Unlikely there is a problem with the reeds-you would get some fuel shooting back out the carbs if they were the problem.
