hello,

well, from what i have learned here on iboats and also some about evinrudes of that vintage i would say:

yes, it will charge ur batteries if all working ok. my '71 85HP does.

given it all is in good running condition and prop pitch correct, based upon what my 15.5 does i would predict 35-45 +/-...

wonder how close i am...?

regards
lakester

I have a 1978 Johnson 140 on an 18 foot Glastron SSV-188. We do a lot of water sports so I am running a 15 pitch stainless prop. I top out at 37 mph and 5,400 RPM. Not the fastest, but it pulls real good for water sports. I can pop a heavy slalom skier right out of the water. With the right prop you might get into the low to mid 40's. I leave my propped the way it is because my lake is so busy that I rarely accelerate past 30 mph, and I like the pulling power. From a reliability standpoint, I love the engine, but it is really thirsty. Plan on a hefty gas budget. There is a sweet spot at about 27 mph where the motor just hums, and the gas situation improves considerably. Enjoy!

I have a 1977 115 hp Evinrude on my 1983 Ebbtide Fish and Ski. My top speed is anywhere from 40 mph to 47 mph. (Speedometer does not work.)
Runs great!
