Just put my new starter on. Does anyone have a clue what the screw aft of the starter does? It is a fully threaded screw, has a flat head slot and a set nut with a washer. On the backside (inboard side by the flywheel) there is a rubber knob on the end of this screw. Maybe a dumb question, but i dont want to tear anything up.

Thanks
GOD bless!

well that sounds like the perfect name for it, thanks.

What does it do and where should i set it? It has been adjusted/loosened quite a bit.

Thanks

it stops the timing advance plate from rotating any farther than full advance

you really need a manual, it will tell you how to set full advance timing

Guesswork is not allowed in setting it. It is very critical and must be done correctly. If not enough advance, you will have a poorly running motor. If too far advanced, you won't have a motor because it will destroy itself from pre-ignition. I can't advise you strongly enough, take it to a dealer that knows what he is doing and have it adjusted. It will be some of the best money you ever spent. Yeah, you can buy the repair manual and a timing light--that shouldn't cost much more than two or three times what the guy is going to charge you to set it.
