In a boneheaded move, I took the trim motor off of the reservoir and was messing around with it. I ended up breaking the tab that holds the two magnets in place.

So... is there a way that I could fix this? I figure I'll most likely have to replace it, but can't find just the motor. Everywhere I am finding the part it is the motor and reservoir being sold together. Haven't gone down to the boatyard yet (going in the morning) so hopefully they can help me out.

Anyways, the moral of the story is don't break things while you are trying to figure out how they work...

The reservoir is part of the motor. Without it the motor falls apart and is ruined during shipping. Do you have prestolite or calco? If you broke the circuit board then you need a new brush cap ... fancy name = "commutator end plate". Ugh. Tough job.

I'm not sure exactly. I think you guys are talking about exactly what I need. It is the little plate at the very top that holds the two (what I think are magnets) I guess brushes in place. I'm not sure exactly what brand it is. I will look at it harder later and even post a pic of it. Thanks for the replies.

Edit: If I were to take it to the boatyard, they should be able to fix it, right? Or would it end up costing more than a new motor? Ridiculous how repairing things ends up costing more than buying new parts.

when you use substandard materials and only pay your workers 2lbs of rice per day it is easy to build cheap stuff.

ARCO makes a good brush plate. If your motor is prestolite then TR208 should fit.

I'm not sure what brand the motor is. I couldn't find any numbers or anything on it. Admittedly, I did not take the reservoir off, so if it is on there some where, I just can't see it. I'm going with a buddy to his cousin's boat shop, so hopefully I can get a "buddy of a cousin" deal lol.

Here is a pic of the motor and reservoir:
