Had to get towed back....did some testing and found i think i need a new stator. Just wondering if there is a "how to" somewhere on here. Just need to know whats involved before i get going on it. Do i need to time the engine after? Does the flywheel go back on the exact same position with a keyway etc.? Is there a sure fire way to know if its the stator or not. I have gone to CDI website and followed the testing with my voltmeter. thanks

Replacing the stator is easy. Only goes on one way (bolt alignment), and the wiring goes on just as it came off (make yourself a diagram if you need to). Flywheel is keyed and will only go back on one way. Be sure to torque the flywheel as per spec, which I believe is 105 ft. lbs. No timing issues to worry about, as you can remove the stator without messing with the trigger.

Once you have the flywheel off, check all the wiringto the stator for cracking, sometimes after all the heat they get there the wire eventually breaks up and thats the cause of the problem. If thats the case you can then just snip them near the base and replace the lead wires

thanks .....and good call. Ive already purchased a new one...lol. I do think this one may be shot though as its leaking oil as well. I read on the cdi website that they build the new ones with better cooling aspects. Hope its not just a marketing trick.
