Re: 1977 Evinrude70 HP no fuel?
Obviously you are experiencing fuel starvation problems. If you pass ezeke's test you are definitely having delivery type starvation problems.

Apparently you haven't looked at everything in your replacement process.

Might disconnect the fuel line at one of the carbs and squeeze the bulb. You should get a goodly amount of fuel out every time you squeeze. If you do, you are looking at carb floats, clogged venturi jets and maybe fuel pump even though you said you just installed a new one.

Then pull the plugs so that the engine can spin over fast with the starter and see if your fuel pump is now causing fuel to come out of the same hose . If so that part of the system should be ok.

If you pass the above tests, your problems are carb related. You either didn't get all the crud out of the carb and you are blocking a venturi jet or the float and associated needle (shut off) valve are not functioning, or your jets are clogged or misadjusted.

If the float were the problem, choking wouldn't help it to run. You need to check fuel delivery inside the carb...i.e. high and low speed needle valves. The low is probably adjustable, the high, probably not. These valves usually start out at 1.5 turns open and once the engine is running right fine tune a 1/4 turn or so.

One way to check the needle valve and float is to remove the bowl allowing the float to flop. Then squeeze the bulb gently and fuel should run out of the carb. Then gently raise the flopped end of the float till the float is parallel with the carb housing. The fuel should stop right about there and cease to come out indicating that the float and inlet valve are functioning. Turning loose of the float and squeezing again should cause fuel to start coming out again.

HTH,
Mark
