Should i get at least 3mpg on plane crusing (relative i know) from my 16' Galaxy trihull pushed by a 77' 85 johnson? I don't care about the money i just was trying to just think about what places i could go fish in galveston bay that was within reach theortically (sp?) i have a 6 gallon spare tank with 12gallon main.

I've read and found this table in the forums from a guy that had a 17' boat with a 115 johnson that recorded almost 4mpg @3500 rpm.

I have a feeling i'm just gonna have to just have to keep an eye on the tank and just keep testing from trying

As a rule of thumb, you'll be burning close to 9 gallons per hour at wide open throttle. If you're running 40mph at wide open, then that would put the limit of your range at about 20 miles each way on 9 gallons. You can always throw a get-me-home jerry can under the deck as insurance if needed...
Your mileage may vary due to loading, how heavy you are on the throttle, currents, etc. First time or two out it would be better to carry the extra fuel until you get a feel for how much your rig will drink over a given route...
