1977 gamefisher just stopped running and leaks gas

Hi I am new to iboats and I have a 1977 7.5 HP gamefisher that just suddenly quit starting and leaks fuel from the exhaust down in the lower unit. I'm 15 and i got this motor from my grandfathers shed and fixed it up and it ran great 4 days ago and then yesterday I went to start it and I got nothing but the gas leak and yes i am positive its gas and not the lower unit oil. can some body please help. THANKS

It does not have a feul pump it has an onboard fuel tank so it is gravity fed.

Well it does not even have a seperate port for another gas tank. besides a I took the the carb off and cleand the whole thing and I didnt see anything that looked like that.

But I did not relize Eska had made a 1977 Gamefisher 7.5 w/o fuel pump, do you have a picture? better yet a 217-xxxx model mumber

If you want I can take a picture of the carb so you can see it. I've done a lot of research on this motor and I found that my model Is a cheaper model than others of the same year.It does not even have a cowling its just a gas tank over an open motor and it has no twist grip it just has a nob right above the carb.

Oh no kidding, nice motor! and points model.
I have a Eska 7.5 SSI that runns the best...will push alot of boat, mine came with a nice shroud but I took it off.

Check your float for a leak, they get gas in them and sink floading the carb or your float needle and viton seat could also be failing to seat.

I just took the carb off yesterday and cleaned the whole thing. The float and needle were fine. Right after I put it on Ifire it up for 3 seconds and then I put it in the test tank and it fired for 3 seconds and died. Then I got nothing after that.

I guess it could have jet issues behind the welch plug, but at that point it all needs cleaned out. I guess it had no filter?

Well when I got the mtor I put a fuel filter on it however it does not have an air filter as most early eskas didnt.

Is it possible that the float can just move itself like that. Also what about the gas leaking from the leg it seems like the gas would have to be geting to the cylinder.

So gas is passing the viton seat and needle and floading into the crankcase and down the leg,
I would check for gas in the float, a sinking float or a non seating float needle is the only way for your pumpless carb. I just had the sinking float syndrome...its kind of a shock to find out your trusty float has devoloped a leak...I would buy a cheap stens needle and seat and get a new plastic float, look under tecumseh on ebay for a good deal on that stuff...don't look under gamefisher or Eska...there all holdup men

well I checked the float when I cleaned it 2 days ago and the needle is 4 months old however the rubber peice that goes in the needle jet has not been replaced but I do have the part. I just cant figure out how to remove the old one.

I use a #4 crochet hook to remove the viton seat, then for a punch to re install I use a flat punch that I chucked in my drill and turned down to fit the needle well,
paper clips and such will mar the brass needle well.

any chance you have the needle clip turned the wrong way? open end should face the choke...makes a dif..if turned wrong the needle can and will hang on the side of the needle well.

What about the flat end of a drill bit to install it. I also have no idea what a #4 crochet hook is as stupid as that may sound.

what ever you use needs to be real close to the size of the viton seat, if done correctly you never have to adjust the float.

back n the old days ladys would set around and crochet doiley's ??? He!! I thought everybody new what a crochet hook was, the Tecumseh manual I have says to use one...and they work great

Thanks but I managed to get it with a straightened fish hook without screwing anything up and I got the new one in. When I was putting everything back together I noticed that when I pushed the float all the way up it had a slight upwards angle and I realy thought nothing of it. Well when I went to start it it fired up but it sounded a little rough and then died. From there I could only get it to run for about 5 seconds at the most. I think that the float just needs to be adjusted but I'm not sure. If it is that do you think could you tell me how to do it.
