Hi everyone,

I've got a 1977 Johnson Seahorse 25 hp here. My electric starter is broken, so I'm desperately looking for a rope starting package that I can mount on my engine, because it looks like the previous owner has removed it. I can still see screw holes for the package.

Anyone knows where to buy it (in Europe) and how many I need to spend on it?

I hope anyone can help me...

What is wrong with the starter? Can you get it rebuilt? The cost of a rebuild and the cost of a rope start until will probably be about the same.

Re: 1977 Johnson 25 Seahorse rope starting

My problem is the engine block. The starter mount broke away out of the engine block. I'm now trying to connect the starter mount to my engine block on several ways. But because of the forces on it, I failed several times making the connection strong enough.

So now I'm hoping to find a pull starter that I can use, or another way to start my engine. I tried winding a rope around the flywheel, but it's too hard to pull and I can't let it get enough revs to start it.

Anyone any suggestions?

So are the bolts broke off in the block? A good machine shop can help you out with those. I would look into having someone remove the bolts and use the starter if I could.

Another note, on my 28hp, I can still easily start it with a rope on the flywheel.

There was sticking out a piece of metal where I can screw the bolt in. But since that piece of metal broke off, I can't get the electric starter mounted to the engine block.

I'll also try again starting it with a piece of rope.

Someone an idea to repair my engine??
