1977 Johnson 55HP will run high rpm - not at Idle

I am trying to get my boat ready for the summer a little early and have noticed that it will not idle down low enough to put it into gear before dieing. I've just replaced all of my gas lines as they all somehow developed cracks at the same time. with new plugs and fresh gas I still can not get the thing to idle. i sprayed the carbs with carb and choke cleaner very well inside and out. the boat runs great at full and mid throttle just not the idle. any ideas?

Carbs need to be dissassembled and soaked and kitted if never been done, just spaying carb cleaner isn't enough

Im having the same problem with my 77 25hp motor. Guess I'll try the carb rebuild thing

I will pull the carbs back off and try to do a better job. Should I fear anything while I'm taking them apart? i have never done that before. any good threads previously posted that might have pictures?
