Hi all, I haven't had my boat in the water in about 8 years, I got a new battery and hooked it up. I hit the key and the choke flap closed, but the motor wouldn't turn over. I polished the terminals, and tried again, nothing.
I am lousy with electrical issues so I called a friend who is an electronic wizz. He walked me thru using a voltmeter and said my starter wasn't working. This makes no sense since it was working fine when I parked it.
I pulled the starter and took it to the local Autozone. They hooked it to their machine and it showed a direct short. The older employee then took a hot battery and jumper cables and tried, again nothing. He said it got a direct short somehow.
I may have carburetor issues to attend to next, but I want the starter working. Should I try to get the starter repaired or look for a new/rebuilt one online?
Any and all help is appreciated.
