I searched a bit and couldn't find the answer. Just checked my water pump and changed the lower unit gear oil. When I filled it back up, I losened the upper screw and stuck the oil bottle nozzle into the lower hole. Squeezed until oil came out the top hole, then tightened it and quickly put in the lower screw. It sure didn't take much so I just wanted to make sure that was normal? When I say "didn't take much" I'm talking like just a couple seconds of squeezing...Maybe a couple ounces?? Thanks for any help.

9 oz? I know for sure I don't have that much, but it was coming out clean from the top. Odd. Thanks, I'll double check to make sure it's full.

My older (early 80's) 15 and 9.9 take real close to 300ml. I remember thinking I could do three gear case fills with one liter (1000ml). Best of luck. Rick.

If you fill it from the drain screw and it comes out of the vent screw it has to be full.

Hopefully you used the lower drain screw and not the shifter pivot pin.

There could have been a air bubble in the upper passageway. Let it set for a while with the upper screw out & try again. Or run it in a tank/muffs & try again, if there is a bubble, it may have disapated then. If not, pump some more in, pumping out a bit. It is best to loose a bit than to guess & be wrong.
