My first forum post (happy to be posting) concerns the reverse lock lever for my Merc 110, serial# 4814017. When I shift into reverse, the lever does not engage on the tilt-pin and if I increase the throttle beyond slow-idle, the motor raises, forcing me to hold it down with one hand while steering/throttling with the other. I have looked closely at the components for this device and all appear to be in place. I have lubricated all of the parts, and can engage/disengage the lever by hand. However if I engage the lever manually, when I shift into neutral or forward it does not automatically disengage, preventing me from raising the motor if needed while on the water, and I cannot reach the lever from inside the boat to disengage it.

I have the Seloc manual (#1404) for this series of outboards and have looked extensively through it attempting to find servicing or adjustment procedures, but the tilt/trim section only discusses power tilt units with no instructions for adjusting this device.

Excuse me, but how is this the wrong "thread"? This is the only forum that deals with Mercury Outboard Troubles/Repair. My outboard is a Mercury and I'm asking for repair help with something that is causing me some trouble.
