I am having trouble with the middle carb on this engine. Fuel would spew out of the top of the float assembly when the primer was primed and also when the engine would turn over. After taking the carb off and taking the float assembly apart I noticed a small spring on top of the float. Actually it was wedged inbetween the side of the float and the assembly. Obviously it does not belong here. I have a Clymer book and I cant see that there should be a spring in there at all. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or suggestions??

Thanks for the help.

The floats should indeed have a little spring on the top. At least mine do, and they are mentioned in the Mercury manual for that motor. If the spring at the top of the float is bent and or stretched and obstructing the float, I think you've found your problem.

just looked at manual, if i'm not mistaken the needle valve i suppose to go thru that spring. thus the spring surrounds the needle, and forces it down whenthe float drops. sound like it slipped when last assembled. for once the factory manual is vague. send me an email and request 1150 carb, and i send diagram.
