Re: 1977 Mercruiser 305 No Spark!!
. The boat owner says that it ran last year at the end of the season and "lost it's spark".
hope the price reflects that.
He says all it needs is a new distributor
how does he know that? marine distributors are pretty expensive if it comes down to that.
however i have concerns with the age and more problems to come. any thoughts on the deal?
you'll likely have many more problems.
I know Sea Ray has a good reputation for quality boats
in old boats. name brand means little. care of the boat over time is much more important.
I just don't want to get into a deal and end up spending a fortune on a 35 year old boat.
it's very possible you could.
boats sellers have much motivation to lie.
that the engine turns over fine and if it only needs points in the distributor thats a fairly inexpensive fix,
have him fix then and show you it runs. i'll give him that point are inexpensive. maybe $10 + install.
there are many components to an i/o set up. engine, drive steering trim, etc. any can have problems. a though inspection by 'you' or someone who knows boats(boat surveyor)is in order...
don't forget the boat part too. wood rot is common in old boats. you have rotten stringers or transom, and it won't make a difference if the engine don't run or not. the boat is non serviceable and would need repair prior to the mechanical component repair being worth bothering with.
good luck in your adventure.
