I have 1977 150 in-line and started having trouble starting. The battery was old so I replaced it and checked all of the connections. When I start the motor it turns over very slow like a low battery for a couple of revolutions then speeds up to a more normal speed until the motor starts. Before I replace the starter I thought I would see what you guys think. Thanks,

Pull in and take it to any auto starter repair and they can check it simple. Don't lose any little rubber torque bumpers on top

Old battery wires can become corroded inside where you don`t see it. Also, are you sure you bought a battery with enough cranking amps. Bigger is always better.

Just got done on another post reply about corroded batt cables. LD might be on to something here. The negative side off the harness is a suspect here. I'd peel back some insulation here and take a peek first

Blevins, I had the same problem on my '77 1500, and found the positive battery cable rotted out where it joined the main harness. Maybe is you gently squeeze the batt cable with a plier. If it gives, it may be bad

I was thinking about cables to but thought it could never be something that easy. I'm going to check both cables ends today and go from there. If it's bad where it ties into the main harness does the harness have to be eplaced. Thanks for all the help guys.

Guys,

Thanks for the advice, I replaced both cable ends and it cranked over 90% better. Still may have a little problem but I want to wait to see how it cranks when it gets warmer, it was cold yesterday! Thanks again.
