In order to replace impeller in OMC sterndrive, do you have to separate upper and lower gear cases? What gaskets are needed if this is what has to happen? Is there a way to test it without disassembling? Looking at manual looks as though impeller is located in between upper and lower. Any special tools needed? Thanks!!

The upper back plastic cover of the drive is removable, and the water pump is right behind there, easy peasy!

On a Stringer ? no , you have to seperate the upper and the lower .

To the OP yours is an electric shift , which is quite easy to remove anyways , just remember to unhook the shift wires before you drop the drive . No special tools needed , but an extra helper to help hold the drive can come in handy

the impeller is right at at the bottom of the upper unit.

Before separating the upper from the lower gear case to replace the impeller, do I need to drain the lube from the drive?

You don't have to. Though, IMHO it's a great time to service the lube (you need Type C in the lower).

Two(2) barrel Holley carb needs to be rebuilt. Where can I get carb rebuild kit? List #7036. Electric choke. Accelerator pump is shot. Would it be better to purchase remanufactured, instead of rebuilding? .

I've never messed much with my carb. Some parts available HERE, but I would say just use the automotive stuff. Flame arrestor is the only thing "marine" that I can think of - someone else may correct me on that. On a carb, I'd say start by doing some maintenance and rebuild.
