I am a new member on the forum (boating as well) and I not only wanted to say Hi, but thank this community for all the help I previously had in restoring a few smaller 1950's Johnson and Evinrude Motors.

Anywho, I just picked up a 18ft Glastron V-182. This is my first actual boat (not including aluminum fishing boats) It is a 1977, which i purchased from the original owner. It has the factory gelcoat, seats, carpet, Even the cover is dated 1978. It does have a 1977 Johnson 115HP outboard, Model 115 EL77s..... All for 400 cojones. :)

I have been trying to find information on this model, but my search has been fruitless, So I am reaching out to all you personally.

Questions

#1 Where the hell is the battery on this thing?

#2 It appears this boat has hydraulic steering. You can turn the motor all the way to the right and back to center. however, If you turn it ALL the way left, you lose all feel of the wheel and have to manually move the motor a few degrees right to regain control with the steering wheel.

#3 If you tilt the motor in the up position, the motor will slowly sink back down about 10 Deg.

Im thinking the hydraulic issues could be contributed to the hydroscopic tendancies of hydraulic fluid or bad seals on the rams.

#4 should there be anything else I should be looking at for this particular motor aside from the basics (Plugs, carb rebuild, impellar, grease zerks, Points/cond, Gear oil...)

I will say the motor does not run and the previous owner said he had used it heavily. Although the condition of the rest of the boat does not condone this :)

Some insite to my newish
boat or motor would be awesome! Whether it is relevant to my questions or not. Thanks!

Thanks For the link! I had came across this site previously, but am glad to see the new owners manual section.
