I have a 1977 Evinrude 140hp v4. Model number 140783S. But when I look for parts alot if not most say for a 1978 to 1998?? Was 1977 a one off year?? Or is the 1977 and the 1978 powerhead the same?? Any information would be appreciated

Beginning In 78 some things were changed but it may not necessarily be what you are needing. Best go look at part numbers only to verify some of those descriptions are generalizations

Well----1973 V-4 powerheads were a ---" one off year "----Not so much the 77 models.----They did make midsection changes in the 77 / 78 model years .----And they started offering the 25" extra long shaft models.-----Crankshaft center bearing was beefed up in the 79 V-4 models.

Ignition systems - powerpack, stator, coils etc. significantly changed from '77 to '78.
