There should be a fuse panel for the boat electronics under the dash console. Check those fuses to. There may even be an in-line fuse somewhere between the motor and the control box.

Re: 1978 115hp tilt power problem

Those units were a little unusual. The trim control box is wired direct to the battery. They have a dedicated 20 amp fuse in the trim box which mounts under the rear deck of the boat. There is only one trim solenoid in those remote boxes. The current for the trim up movement goes through the trim switch and that relay. On the down movement, the current only goes through the switch on the control box handle. So, if you have no down, you may have fried the trim switch on the control box handle. No big deal.

Does it work if you try to go up ? Or are both dead ? You could also try by-passing the control switch with a jumper wire and see what happens.

You can also do this bypass test in the t/t control box . Pos to blue for up, Pos to green for down. Neg to grd on both tests. Do these tests on the wires going directly to t/t mtr.

Where did you do the bypass test at? At the switch or back at the solenoid. The solenoid is for the up position only. The control switch on the handle activates the soleniod for up only( blue wire). For down the the current goes through the handle directly to the mtr(green wire).

took 3 wires( blue /green/black)straight from motor off solenoid hooked up black to negative on battery via jumper cable and other jumper cable from positive on battery to blue and then green.

Good. Now take a test lite or volt meter and start working your way back to the switch. Have some one activate the switch and at the same time checking for voltage on both the blue and green wires at all connections. Does the solenoid click when the blue wire on it has power to it? You also have to have 12 volts going into the switch to make it work. Keep following the circuits and I'm sure you'll find it. Best thing is the t/t mtr still works.
