just bought 1992 picton with 1978 vro 150 had nothing but problems since purchase 2 months ago. took it out first time for an hour ran perfect and started perfect. but over heat alarm was on so changed pump. Still on then realised head gasket was bust changed both gaskets and water gasket thermostats and plugs took out again still getting a beep ever second then realised the vro pump had not been disconnected . took it back out again and ran good no alarm. That's a brief history of it. Went out this weekend however and when running the engine on the plain it felt like the engine was losing power I gave a little more throttle then it was okay but only for a short time then same again any suggestions why this is also now it is not going in to reverse. it sounds like the revs are working but its just not going it to gear. Any help much appreciated.

What's the model number? VRO did not exist in 1978.

If you turned the shift rod while working on the water pump, you will have to reset the length of the shift rod for your gears to work correctly.

Yes sorry its a 1987 model E150STLCUR . That makes sense. How is this done and does it require dropping the gear box again. Any suggestions on the loss of power on the plain also. cheers for your reply

The shift rod needs to be 22-1/16 +/- 1/32", measured from the mating surface of the gearcase to the center of the hole at the top of the shift rod while in neutral.

Add exactly 5" for the extra long shaft models.
