Price is a little high IMO. The motor will push it but might be a little underpowered. But you could always sell the two and pick up a little bigger one.

I think it is a bit high, but not too much. The 35 hp is a bit under the rated max and the boat would probably do better with larger hp. Check the deck for soft spots, see of you can get a compression check on motors, etc. Overall nice looking rig from pics. Others will be along to advise soon.

Thank you Mr. "Bananaboater",..It's about 1.5 hours away so I haven't been able to really check it out first hand.

Super nice boat. I think the price is fair with both those motors on it. That being said, the minimum I would consider on that hull would be a 50HP. I think you could easily sell the 35 and upgrade without too much additional cash out of your pocket. In my opinion, the ideal motor for a 16' Starcraft is a 70-90 horsepower 3 cylinder. Great power to weight ratio. I had an 85HP V4 on mine and it was a bit stern heavy.

No way to know. There doesn't seem to be ANY consistency to the motors you see on these Starcrafts so I'm guessing they weren't sold as packages. So pretty much anything could have been on there from new.

I rally don't mind the two motors thing,..they look as though they were installed properly,..at least from here.

I was kinda' looking at the 9.8 as a "spare" in case the main goes down,Ha,Ha.. I will have to give it some more thought,..If and when I go look at it,..I'm taking money to buy it,..just not sure yet,..keeping my options open for now I guess,..but I am getting itchy. Thats usually a bad thing when buying something.

Welcome to iboats Jeff, that '78 SS looks like it's been in a garage for 30+ years. Most are not in that nice of original condition due to outdoor storage.

Since it comes with two motors, already setup for linked steering the boat seems ready for the water.

The hull looks free of scratches and dents too, maybe take a closer look to make sure. Check the bottom hull for bad rivets to see how much work it might need.

Good luck to ya!

If thats the size boat you want ,you would be a fool not to grab it quick. Even Back east that is a super buy. Someone will scoop that up in a heartbeat. The 35 is a bit under powered but fine till later. you can find another motor some day a lot quicker than you can find another boat in that condition. My local Marina sold one no better than that last fall for $7500. If I was closer I would buy it even without running it. You know what a new boat like that costs and that may be 34 years old but just about like new. Hope its still there when you get to see it. I would tell him its sold on the phone and go get it. Nope that's normal...and that boat is a good one.:D

If you are getting itchy from working on restoring a fiberglass boat, then that's a whole 'nother story.

Is the boat is Hagerstown, MD? I lived in Rockville for a little while.:)

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft (Please Give Opinion On Purchse Price)

Hey fellas,..thanks for the replies,..yes,..that is pretty much what I'm looking for,..even the 35 may be big enough for my use,..I'm just into cruising and fishing. I would be adding a trolling motor.

One more irrelevant question,..were these older Starcraft boats painted blue like that inside,..or is that aftermarket?

I may go get it,..I have been waiting for something to come up at the Rayston Marina that already had a slip,..but "times a wastin",...

Thanks again fellas,..and also for the warm welcome,

Jeff

If the boat is a s it looks almost bet you will see it for sale for a bit more $. Guy in Post Falls Idaho did that when I bought my 22 Holiday from him. His price was still a h of a deal for me . No rebuild.
