I currently have a 1978 19ft dynaglass boat, not a cc , closed bow (storage only, not nearly enough room to be a cuddy)... It's currently got a beat 1988 comm Johnson 150 on it... compression terrible some cylinders 60 I think one may be 0 ... Used it all last season like thAt ... Went good actually 40 mph right to a plane. I want to replace the motor dealers got a 1998 90hp Johnson .. Said this should do fine on my boat... It's also 120 Lbs less then my current motor. I want to be able to plane out and get about 30 .. Is this possible ? Any ideas? This motor is $1800.00 prop, controls, installed 60 day warranty...

as long as the boat is in good condition, and not water logged, it should do fine, would rather see a 115 on it.

Once you have had real power, (assumin' yer Johnny ran right at one point), it will be very VERY difficult ta get used to less power n' 150 Johnny's in good corndition have lots of power!!

In fact I don't think you will ever like it, (if yer honest with yerself).

Boats are things of pleasure (n' power causes lots of said pleasure every time ya put the hammer down), and lots of flexability ta cruise at a fraction of WOT, knowin' ya got it if ya ever need it, and you will find ya need it at some point down the pike.

I'd keep lookin' look fer another 150 HP not a pony less if it were me. (Only one brain cell werks though.) :D

Me over priced $.02 JR
