I bought this 78 glastron fish and ski last fall. the guy I bought it from had let it set for a year. when I first got it I tried starting it, and it turned over real strong, and I actually got it to start. well, like a dummy , I let it set over the winter without cleaning the carbs and getting the old gas out. recently I got all the old gas out , put fresh gas with stabilizer and tried starting it . the motor has a real hard time turning over. I made sure the battery was fully charged. the starter seems to be working fine. I need some advice on what to do next . your advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks

90% of starter problems are bad connections. remove and clean both ends of the battery cables, so that they are shiney, also the cable from the solenoid to starter. check for nicks in the cables. and make sure the connectors are on the wire good. the cable tend to corrode from the inside out, if nicked, corroded wires, and connections, heat up and cause resistance to the follow of electricity, thus the starter doesn't get enough. you can also take jumper cable pos battery post to large post on starter. with a good connection, the engine should spin. then if the starter is good clean everything and retest. then trouble shoot solenoid. starters can be rebuit at a starter/alternator shop, much cheaper than a new one.

also have the battery load tested at the auto parts store, free, i've had new batteries go bad

After you have done what was posted prior.Remove all plugs and see how the engine rotates using your hand to determine if you have internal problems.235's do have some gremlins, but let us know as you go with the hints you have thus far.
