1978 25hp sparking from Under the flywheel

Hi I have an 25hp short shaft elec start. It seems to run ok but i'm getting belts(shocks) off the main engin houseing and i found that the is an intermittant sparking coming from under the flywheel area to the main houseing and the gear linkage near the stator. I think it may be stator. If it is are there any fixs i can do. Stators a a bit pricy, or can they be fixed?<br />Any help will be gratfully riecved. Regs JTS4U

Better have a look at the wiring/components<br />Take it apart and find the source of the arcing.<br /><br />Than you'll know more about what has to be repaired/replaced.

Thanks o great presidente. Have done just that found a crack in the wiring and have put super glue on a possible arcing point on the stator coilswhere the internal wiring seems to be very close to the surface of the potting. It did look as if it had some black carbon residue round it. Ialso used some vulcanising tape round the wiring + a good clean up.X fingures no belts yet.<br />May the farce be with you all.
