Just got my outboard back from the shop. New Carb Kit, Water Pump, Starter, lude etc. I bought this outboard used. I want to take care of it and treat her right. So here are my ?'s

1) Xd-30 or Xd50?
2) Octane? 87?,89?93?

Thanks,

Andy

Re: 1978 35HP Johnson Gas/Oil Mixture

Andy...

The gas mix is 50:1 ratio....I use the xd50 since i got a great deal on a case..but any of the newer oils rated at TC-W3 will do...lots like the wal mart brand...I like the synthetics less smoke...the xd50 has a agent in it to keep carbon build up....if you can afford the XD50..go for it....some marina's you can buy it in bulk just bring a gallon jug they fill it....

Pennsoil makes a good synthetic oil also..was very happy when i was using it....if you choose a oil like pennsoil or any oil just add seafoam to every tank as a stabilizer and it also helps keep carbon down...

also just use 87 octane ....no benefit to using any higher ....personally I like to use Shell..Mobil or Sunoco..reason being I was away once and none near me..so got Joe's super gas..boat ran horrible on it...drove 20 miles to a shell station got 20 gallons and boat purred again...

so any TC-W3 oil is fine to use..up to u what u want to use..but do add seafoam to the gas mix...its god's nectar for outboards
