Ive got a 78 402 40 hp 2 cyl. got motor 2 years ago and has been a nightmare.

last year it died, so this year I changed switch box, rewired stator. it fired up one time, ran about a minute now nothing. I checked spark, if u hold it to ground nothing but if u hold plug in hand and ground hand u can feel it. dont seem to be getting right amount of gas to plugs cause they are only slightly damp. i'm getting gas to carb. pump seems fine. got compression. plugs were new last year and motor only ran on them once. spark may be weak but was always that way. don't have the tools to test stator to switch box or switch box to coil voltage. charge side of stator works fine with light wile cranking engine. any help would be great. thanks Josh.

If you don't have the tools available to you to test the ign. then it needs to go to a good shop for repair, there is no way that you should be able to take the CD output that way.

Got my switch box off ebay for about 140.00.

motor has spark. can see it when plug is grounded, but still wont start.
gas pours out carb. put gas in cyl. still no start. cyl #1 has 115 psi compression. #2 has 120 psi. just cant get it to fire. getting sick of spending money on a motor that dont run.

Maybe you have wrong sequence? Try changing the cables to the other plug. If somewhere in the proces the cables got crossed, nothing will start...
