1978 55 hp need tach wiring help

Hello everyone and good day thanks for looking.

I have a 1978 evinrude 55hp model #55875S i've been searching for a detailed desription on how to install a teleflex tachometer. It came with directions but it shows (i believe it shows) two wires crossing each other from the send to the gray controller and a yellow on something.
And the directions dont tell me if mine is a 12 or 10 poles.

The tach wire is the gray wire in your harness, also look on your control box, just below the key there will be a dial, then below that there may be a plug with 1 to 3 wires coming out of it.

If your box has that plug, track the gray wire to it's end, which will you may find ends under you dash, this would be your tach signal

It works fairly well when i get to about 5200 rpms it doesent want to read any higher and i thinnk i hear the motor going up in rpms once the tach stops at 5200.

What setting do you have the tach on now?
