I just need to know what weight oil to put into the lower unit and also how much?
I think a quart will be enough but just wanted to ask the experts on iboats for the right answer to my questions.

You can go to walley world and get outboard lower unit oil and a pump kit to put oil in; it will be the correct weight. Most auto parts stores will have it too. Just make sure you only take out the two slotted screws and leave the phillips head screw alone. Need to get two new gaskets/seal for the two screws you took out to prevent water leaking into the lower unit. Good luck.

Be sure you get marine lower unit oil. Automotive gear oil won't work correctly. You will probably use about 26 ounces, so get a quart. It won't spoil-so you'll have some left over for next time.

Just wondering, what is the difference between marine gear oil and automotive gear oil if both the same weight and say both synthetic gear oil. I have looked online and found that my other boat uses 75W-90 gear oil in the lower unit it calls for API GL-5 oil
I put in Castrol Edge Full Synthetic Gear Oil 75W-90 With the API GL-5 rating the only oil i could find in the correct weight range i am now hoping it will be ok

The marine has additives that help it suspend water better so the whole thing doesn't grenade if you get a little water in the lower. I'm sure lots of people use regular though. Perhaps just check yours for water intrusion once or twice during the season.
