Hi all,... I bought another outboard for my little tugboat, as the 1954 Johnnyrude 5.5hp set up on me, 'n I'm tired of fixin' it...

Over winter, I found a cute little Merc. 7.5hp, serial # 5146242,... I find it to be a 78/ 79 model...
I bought a carb kit for it, as it don't like idling all that much, 'n idling is what I need it to do...
I've also got a waterpump kit on the way, as even though it's movin' water, I don't know it's history, 'n would just as soon change it out, Before it's a problem...

Anyways, on to my questions,...
It's the BB carb,... Is there somewhere I can find the spec's for rebuildin' it,..??
Float level, 'n whatnots,..??
And,...
I'm assuming that to pull the lower unit, I'll need to pull the waterport screen/ cover to find another nut/ bolt holding the lower,..??
I only see 1 nut/ bolt on the forward edge of the housing...
How about the shifter,..??
Does it need to be in Forward,..??
How does it disconnect,..??

The housebarge is goin' back in, in a couple weeks, or sooner, so I gotta get the Tugbarge up, 'n running up to snuff....

Thanks fer any help ya can throw my way,.... ;)

if this has a zinc fin on the rear of the lower unit remove it and there may be another nut under there you have to remove onece you get the unit down in Neutral make sure you do not switch the gears when servising the water pump. then reinstal after your done and should be good to go there has to be more than 1 nut bolt holding this thing on

Your carb is the same as this one but yours has the side fuel pump and this one has a seperate one. Make sure the idle pickup tube is clear and basic setting for idle screw is 1 1/2 out.

Re: 1978/79 7.5hp outboard

Ayuh,... Day before yesterday, I pulled the carb off the motor, no problem...
Stuffed it into my coat pocket, 'n headed over to the Shop...

When I pulled the carb outa my pocket, 1 of the mounting ears was broken off, right about dead center of the stud hole...

Tore it down, 'n tanked it anyways...
Blew it out, 'n reassembled it..
I didn't really find any reasons for it to be runnin' lean, other than the ear busting off...

I "Think" I can epoxy it enough to mount it with a washer under the nut to clamp it flat, 'n tight...

But,... I figured I'd look around for a Replacement anyways...
Well,... It seems this carb is listed as NLA,...

So, Now what,..??
Is there a Known replacement available,..??
Something from a newer motor maybe,..??
I found this 1 on ebay, but it's an earlier vintage, 'n don't appear to have the fuel pump on it's side....
Can I buy this 1, 'n modify it to accept the fuel pump,..??

Any Ideas, other than my epoxy work-around are Truely appreciated....

carholme,.. Yes, that's the carb.... I saved the link to the Marine power service carb...

Maxz695,.. That one appears to be the same as the 1 I linked to at ebay...
The 1 I linked to is brand new, old stock, for $83.00....
I went ahead, 'n bought 1, Hoping I can adapt the extra plate into the fuel pump, from my old carb into/ onto it...
If I fail at that, I guess I'll order the 1 posted by carholme...

Thanks guys, 'n I'm still open fer Other Ideas...

Ayuh,... Thanks windy, that's another Great resourse....
The Merc outboard manuals are more later models...

Well, today I went for a ride in my tugboat,..

She ran like a Dream...

To update,...
I have a rebuilt, but broken flange carb, now sittin' on a shelf in the garage,...
The 1 I found on ebay, is a carbon copy, runs like a dream replacement...
Bolted it on, hooked it up, 'n fiddled with the screw abit...

It idles smooth, 'n slow,...

At Wot, the 12' tinny is a Handfull, 'course the wind was Blowin', gale force...

The new waterpump kit went in Nicely, but the $100. for it was abit much I thought...
Expen$ive little tiny housings,...
It's pumpin' nicely though...

Another week or so, she'll be draggin' the houseboat over to it's mooring,...

Again,... Thanks for the Help, 'n advise from All of ya... ;)
I appreciate it,...
