Question, Does anyone know if the motor will CRANK when it is tilted up? In otherwords, does it have to be all the way down b/4 stater will run??

I've been chasing an intermittent no crank issue and today I discovered that when the motor is up a bit, and won't crank, I can grab the harness by the motor and the motor will crank..

A tilted engine will be attempting to draw fuel uphill. Starting a engine in this condition is a problem to say the least. Once running (higher rpm than cranking speed), he situation is a little more forgiving.

However, I assume you're saying that the electric starter actually will not engage when the engine is tilted (will not crank). If so, I'd suspect a broken/frayed wire at some point in the wiring harness area that is being bent. Either the power voltage wire leading to the "B" (battery) terminal of the ignition switch OR the wire leading from the "S" (solenoid) terminal of the ignition switch to one of the 3/8" terminals of the starter solenoid.

Answering your question point blank..... yes, the engine will crank (electric starter) normally in the tilted position.

sounds like you may have a loose/bad connection at your big red plug or battery cables.

Thanks guys, I suspected much the same. Given that it would crank if I moved the harness around near the motor. Guess it's time to get in and get dirty to figure out what's wrong..
