1978 85hp evinrude starting problem

hi- problem is such that electric starter works, i shut down motor, try to restart and then bendix does not move, ive tried wd40, is it possible to put too much on shaft?, every time this happens i have to pull start, ive checked the battery connections, even cleaned them, is it easy to pull the bendix apart to clean up?,if its acouple of bolts here and there i could do it but anymore ill be lost , help and thanks

Sounds like your battery is low. Must be fully charged. Have you checked the connections at the starter. Try jumping from the battery to the starter directly.
